Heather Hemmeger, PHARMD, PMHNP
PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER
She/Her/Hers
As both a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a former pharmacist, I approach patient care from a unique perspective. I believe that balancing open communication with an in-depth understanding of the appropriate medications creates the opportunity to restore mind-body balance and foster holistic healing.
Together, we’ll work within an anti-oppressive framework to offer a safe, inclusive, and empowering space that inspires self-compassion and lasting results. This approach is evidence-based and intersectional—informed by the multiple identities and sociocultural contexts that shape each human’s lived experience.
I received a doctor of pharmacy degree with a minor in psychology from Purdue University before completing my master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University . My experience in inpatient and outpatient settings as both a pharmacist and a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner allows me to strategically blend elements of both approaches.
I have expertise in mood disorders including anxiety and depression, often in the context of individuals experiencing major life changes, relationship difficulties, or problems at school or work. While I’ve worked with patients at all stages of life, I have extensive experience working with students in college mental health, and I am most passionate about helping older adolescents and young adults as they transition into adulthood and navigate the stressors of high school, undergraduate and graduate school.
In my own home, you’ll likely find me curled up with a good book nestled between my cats Remi and Rowan. (Oh, and Rory!) I enjoy yoga, tennis, trying new restaurants, and exploring the world around me with my partner and my camera.
“I strategically blend elements of both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to give you the best possible care.”
